Guided by core values of honesty, integrity, and dedication, BSB Consultants sets itself apart by focusing on deeply understanding each organization it serves.

In this interview, Benjamin Horowitz shares his insights on BSB Consultants' tailored approach, the challenges companies face with employee benefits, and the exciting future he envisions for the company.

Can you share your background and what inspired you to found BSB Consultants?

I have worked in the HCM and Group Benefits industry for nearly 14 years. Throughout my experience, I recognized that many clients sought a service that was either unavailable or consistently over-promised and under-delivered. This inspired me to drive change within the market by providing exceptional service while advocating for the best interests of my clients and their employees. Our fundamental values are at the core of our work: Honesty, Integrity, and Dedication.

What distinguishes BSB Consultants in the industry of employee benefit services?

At BSB Consultants, our client-centric approach sets us apart in the benefits services industry. We are committed to gaining a deep understanding of each organization and its people, ensuring that the solutions we provide benefit and impact both the company and its most valuable asset—its employees.

How do you tailor your employee benefit solutions to the unique needs of small versus large organizations?

A common misconception about small versus large employers is that smaller companies may not prioritize employee benefits as much as larger ones. In reality, this is far from the truth. At BSB, we aim to design Fortune 500-level benefit packages for a 20-person company with the same care and attention as we would for a 500-person organization.

Attracting and retaining top talent is crucial for any business, regardless of size. One of the most significant ways to achieve this is through competitive and comprehensive benefits packages.

We focus on tailoring solutions that align with each company’s unique growth strategy, ensuring that their benefits offering supports long-term success and answers the question: What does ‘better’ look like for your company?

How does BSB Consultants assist companies in finding the right insurance coverage, and what sets your approach apart?

At BSB Consultants, we take a highly tailored approach to helping companies find the right insurance coverage. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we use a combination of benchmarking and open market insights to assess your specific needs and match you with the most cost-effective and comprehensive options available.

Additionally, our focus on transparency ensures that you understand every aspect of your insurance options. We don’t just hand you a list of potential plans—we walk you through the nuances, helping you make informed decisions for your business's long-term success and security.

What are some of the biggest challenges companies face with employee benefits, and how does your team help overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges companies face with employee benefits is balancing cost management with offering competitive, attractive packages. Rising healthcare costs, the need to cater to diverse employee needs, and staying compliant with ever-changing regulations create complexity for HR teams.

Another challenge is the need for personalization and flexibility. Employees today expect benefits that fit their unique situations, from health coverage to wellness programs and retirement plans.

Retention and recruitment are also closely tied to benefits. Offering an uninspired or inflexible benefits package in a competitive job market can drive top talent elsewhere. Companies face pressure to meet basic needs and provide innovative, attractive benefits that align with employee values—like mental health support or financial wellness programs.

At BSB, we focus on helping companies overcome these challenges through PEO-to-PEO benchmarking and open market benefits. Our benchmarking tools allow companies to understand what similar organizations in their industry offer, so they can stay competitive while controlling costs.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future of BSB Consultants, and how do you plan to expand or enhance your services?

Our primary goal for BSB Consultants is to solidify our position as the leading authority in PEO-to-PEO benchmarking and open market benefits. To achieve this, we plan to focus on several key areas:

  1. Innovation and Technology Integration: We aim to leverage the latest technologies to enhance our benchmarking tools and services. By integrating advanced data analytics and AI, we can provide even more precise and actionable insights to our clients.

  2. Expanding Service Offerings: We are exploring opportunities to broaden our service portfolio to include more comprehensive consulting solutions that address emerging industry needs. This might involve developing new benchmarking criteria or offering additional strategic advisory services and technology.

  3. Market Expansion: We also want to expand our footprint into new markets. By targeting regions with growing PEO industries, we can offer our expertise to a broader audience and tap into new growth opportunities.

By focusing on these areas, we believe we can enhance our services, provide even greater value to our clients, and drive the continued success and growth of BSB Consultants.
